DeChambeau went off favourite for the Masters. He's now four points bigger in a weaker field and at a course I'm sure does suit him better, for all there are strong links between this event and that one . . . My concerns at Augusta were that DeChambeau would be found out with his approaches and what happens when he misses a green. They remain valid to some extent here . . . but I'd be far more hopeful that he can put his strengths to use - remember, he's always putted badly in the Masters, but putted superbly, leading the field, when last he played at Kapalua.” . . . And unlikely to be surprised and find out he is arriving rusty, he was probably in his golf laboratory on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

- - A sighting. After his move up the leaderboard on Friday, I did some digging, found some knowledge, but was a definite pass at 22/1, based on limited data. Now, liking his showing on Saturday as further data, liking the value as much or more than the day before, liking that he's proven himself on Sundays more than most, and liking that I already have a winner in the barn to entice further speculation.

- - I really, really liked both of my in-running plays for the weekend in Saudi Arabia on Poulter(150/1) and Casey(66/1), and was not disappointed in either effort that had Poulter(T-18 ) stumble late both days to finish 7 shots back and 4 shots out of the money, and Casey(T-12) play steady until a late rush to finish 6 back and 3 shots out of the money . . . With weather being a big factor this weekend, I do like the idea of in-running plays, notwithstanding the stature or narratives of the players near the top, but I feel I'm just sort of poking around in trying to find which players to take a stab with, but I made the effort and will see how I fare.
